Birmingham’s Fastest-Growing Neighborhoods to Watch

Birmingham has been growing right before our eyes, and as a result, we’re seeing several clearly defined neighborhoods developing. With their own unique culture and vibe, there’s something for everyone. Whether you’re looking for a new home or a new “Cheers,” these 5 neighborhoods should be on your radar.

    1. Avondale

Avondale has completely transformed in the last decade. The opening of Avondale Brewing Company in the neglected neighborhood gave way to dozens of new restaurants, bars, shops, and offices, and eventually became a sought-after residential community. Once a no-man’s land, Avondale is now bustling with foot traffic, and is a popular destination for concerts and events in the park. Homes are being renovated and bought up faster than we can blink.

Our favorite spots in Avondale include Saturn, Birmingham’s newest music venue (with great coffee!), Melt, Avondale Park, and Wooden Goat.

    2. Crestwood

A stone’s throw from Avondale, Crestwood was not left behind in the revitalization. Crestwood has safely secured it’s place as one of Birmingham’s top residential neighborhoods, and real estate in the area is booming. Full of beautiful, unique Craftsman-style bungalows, spacious ranchers, and trendy renovations, this is the place to be if you love the conveniences of city living, but also still want a more quiet, neighborly feel.

Crestwood is also home to a great park (with a public pool!) and many local restaurants and businesses. We’re partial to Urban Suburban, a fabulous antique shop owned by Chris Feagin and Brik’s own Jeff Richardson, Crestwood Coffee, and The Filling Station.

    3. 2nd Ave N

The Loft District has been a happening part of town for ages, but since the revitalization, 2nd Ave N has turned into an entertainment district all its own. Complete with tons of new unique lofts and luxury apartments, this part of town is home to creatives and high-profile professionals alike. Trendy boutiques, pubs, coffee shops, and some of Birmingham’s most popular restaurants have opened in this area. Newly renovated homes are popping up hereregularly.

Among tons of other team favorites, we really love El BarrioCharm on 2nd, and Bamboo.

    4. Midtown

Midtown is a newer and rapidly-growing neighborhood. Marked by several new commercial developments, including the 20 Midtown complex currently under construction, this area is home to Regions ParkRailroad Park, and the newly unveiled Rotary Trail. Dotted with plenty of casual restaurants and new homes, this neighborhood is anchored by the UAB Hospital, and is a destination for both young and seasoned professionals.
